Submitting a Workshop Proposal

A series of workshops will be held in conjunction with the RE'04 conference to encourage interaction between academia and industry, researchers and practitioners. In general, workshop topics should be in-line with the conference topics but could be extended to related Software Engineering topics of special interest for the host country. We could accept Japanese language proposals in order to stimulate local participation. Workshop proposals should clearly state the topic and overall objectives of the workshop; a short curriculum vitae of the proposed organizer(s) should also be included. We are particularly interested in workshop proposals that cover topics that may have controversial viewpoints or are new to the requirements engineering field, where focused dialogue among participants may lead to interesting follow-on research, empirical investigations or industrial practice improvement. Note that the workshops are intended to stimulate and prepare the workshop participants for the main conference in order to promote dialogue among participants before, during, and after the conference.

Submitting to the Doctoral Consortium

Call for submissions in PDF

The RE '04 Doctoral Consortium is a one-day workshop to be held immediately preceding the main conference.

Goal

The RE'04 Doctoral Consortium is intended to bring together PhD students working on foundations, techniques, tools and applications of requirements engineering and give them the opportunity to present and discuss their research their research in a constructive and international atmosphere. The goals of the Consortium are

Organization

Selected students will present their work and receive constructive feedback both from a panel of experts and from other Doctoral Consortium students. The students will also have the opportunity to seek advice on various aspects of completing a PhD and performing research in requirements engineering. The proceedings of the Consortium will be published as an adjunct to the RE'04 conference proceedings.

Who should participate

Student participants should consider participating in the doctoral workshop at least six months before completion of their dissertation, but after having settled on a research area or thesis topic.

Review process

Each prospective student participant will submit a package of materials for consideration. The participants will be selected on the basis of their anticipated contribution to the consortium goals as well as the potential benefit to the students. Among the criteria that will be considered in reviewing submissions are

Submissions

What to submit

Each submission consists of two elements:

1.

You have to submit a short paper describing your dissertation research.

2.

Your thesis advisor must send a letter of recommendation by e-mail to the Doctoral Consortium Chair at . The letter of recommendation must include an assessment of the current status of your thesis research and an expected date for thesis submission.

Your paper should clearly state

Submission format and rules

Your paper must be formatted in the IEEE proceedings format. The length of the paper (in this format) must be between 1 1/2 and 4 pages. The paper must be submitted as a single PDF-file, with all fonts included and with the last name of the author as its name (e.g., smith.pdf).

All submitted materials must be in English. Your submission should not contain any proprietary or confidential material and should not cite proprietary or confidential publications.

Submissions that do not comply with the instructions given in this call for submissions will not be considered.

How to submit

Prepare an e-mail providing the following information (in ASCII)

Attach your paper to this e-mail and send it to the RE'04 Doctoral Consortium Chair at . Make sure that your advisor submits the letter of recommendation for you.

Submitting a Tutorial Proposal

RE '04 is seeking proposals for full-day (6-hour) and half-day (3-hour) tutorials to be offered on in conjunction with the conference. The tutorial program provides conference participants with the opportunity to explore requirements topics in depth and to gain new insights, knowledge, and skills. Tutorials are particularly effective mechanism for technology transfer and we encourage proposals for tutorials targeted to practitioners seeking to improve their requirements process. Proposals for tutorials given in Japanese language are especially welcome.

Tutorial proposals will be evaluated on the basis of anticipated interest and benefit to RE '04 participants. Tutorials may cover any topic of significant interest to participants including:

Tutorial proposals should be written in English and must include:

Please indicate whether the proposed tutorial has been given previously, and if so, where, when, and the approximate audience size and background of participants. If given previously, please include a sample of the tutorial material with the proposal. Proposals of 2-3 pages should be submitted electronically in Word or PDF format to RE '04 Tutorials co-Chairs: Didar Zowghi (didar@it.uts.edu.au) and Kenji Takahashi (takahashi.kenji@lab.ntt.co.jp).

Deadline for tutorial submissions: Submission Closed

Notification of acceptance: 1st March 2004

Submitting a Poster and Research Demonstrations Proposal

The 12th IEEE International Requirements Engineering Conference (RE'04) invites submissions of high-quality posters and research demonstrations. The Posters and Research Demonstrations programme complements the main conference programme by offering an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present late-breaking or as-yet incomplete research results, or significant work-in-progress in Requirements Engineering.

Review Process

Posters and Research Demonstrations will be reviewed based on their quality, relevance, originality, significance, and soundness. The proposals should describe the main technical contributions of the work and not how it will be physically presented as a poster or demonstration. Commercial products will not be accepted as research demonstrations (see Submitting for the Exhibition). Research demonstrations are not intended to be a forum for commercialization and marketing of a product.

Submission Process

Poster authors are invited to submit original proposals describing the work and the results that have not been submitted for review or published elsewhere. The proposal may include a small number of references, or even a figure or two.

Research Demonstration proposals should describe tools, techniques or methods of Requirements engineering, including references, benefits, and how the work relates to other industrial or research effort.

Both poster and research demonstration proposals must be written in English, submitted in PDF format, and should not exceed 2 pages. It is advisable to include an email address and a URL leading to more information about the work.

Submissions of both posters and research demonstrations should be sent by email to Andrea Zisman, RE’04 Poster and Research Demonstration Chair, at a.zisman@soi.city.ac.uk.

Accepted Posters and Research Demonstrations

Accepted posters and research demonstrations will be given space in an exhibit area during the conference. In addition, there will be poster and research demonstration presentation tracks where each poster and research demonstration will be presented before an audience. Posters will be on display during the conference in a poster room. Research demonstrations will have extra designated hours during which the author(s) are expected to be at their assigned space to present their work. Each accepted poster and research demonstration will be published in the RE'04 proceedings as a 2 pages extended abstract. At least one author should register for the conference.

Important Dates

Posters and Research Demonstration proposals submission deadline: 23rd April 2004
Notification of Acceptance: 21st May 2004
Camera-ready of extended abstract to appear in RE’04 proceedings: 11th June 2004

Submitting an Exhibit

The premier industry exhibition of software requirements and software engineering is a highlight of the annual IEEE International Requirements Engineering conference. Exhibiting companies and research institutions provide products and services in areas such as software requirement engineering, computer-aided software engineering, configuration management, automated software process management; collaboration, programming environments, data archive and storage application software. In addition, participating companies will be able to give a product presentation in an exhibitor's track.

The RE 2004 Industry Exhibits complement the technical program and feature industry leaders in software requirements and software engineering. This exhibition is one you will not want to miss! It begins on Wednesday and continues through Thursday of RE 2004. Vendors may also be interested in attending the RE 2004 industry talks.

Over 200 software and requirements engineering professionals are expected.

To reserve your space, contact Industry Tool Exhibition Chair: Taichi Nakamura (nakamura@cs.teu.ac.jp).
