講演題目	Software Architecture and Design Intent
Abstract	Software architecture is an intermediate model of the transformation of the functional requirements into the implementation design. An understanding of the intent of design decisions — especially at the architectural level of abstraction — is critical to both initial development and system evolution. In this talk, I will present a high- level view of the cognitive nature of software architectural design and the issues of capturing and reusing design intent knowledge. I will also cover a prototype study that we conducted at the University of Texas at Austin as part of a graduate course on software architecture and design intent. Teams of students used intent-based design approaches and notation systems to document intent for architectural design changes to a mature, open-source system. We hope to use the results of this study to develop repeatable empirical studies to validate the potential usefulness of intent-based modeling to system architecture and to gain insight into directions for future research. Finally, I will present other current research projects to develop tool support for capturing and reusing design knowledge and discuss how we might integrate this work into the Empirical Process Monitor.
